Can Chenpi Pu'er Tea with White Fuzz Be Consumed

White fuzz on chenpi pu'er tea should be assessed by thickness, color, smell, and texture. A light, even white bloom can be normal, while dampness or mold is not suitable for drinking.

When it is usually acceptable (light white bloom)

Under normal roasting and storage conditions, a thin, evenly distributed white bloom can appear on the surface. If it is light, dry, and without off-odors or dark spots, it is generally considered a normal appearance change.

If the layer is thick, darkened, clumped, or accompanied by a musty odor, damp feel, or stickiness, it may indicate moisture damage or mold. In such cases, do not drink it.
