Glass jars can be used to store chenpi, but they are not ideal for all cases. Below are common advantages and cautions.
Common Advantages
- Lower cost: glass jars are relatively inexpensive and reduce storage costs at scale;
- Easy inspection: transparency makes it easier to spot moisture, mold, or pests and respond quickly;
- Good sealing: many jars include lids and rubber rings, offering strong sealing that helps in humid conditions.
Points to Watch
Because glass jars seal tightly, if chenpi is not fully dried, moisture can condense on the jar wall and cannot escape, leading to mold. Chenpi aging also benefits from some air contact, and even an open glass jar may affect the aging process.
Suggested Use Cases
Glass jars are more suitable for higher-aged chenpi. A common recommendation is to use them for chenpi aged 10 years or more, or for short-term display and temporary storage (for example, in shops to help customers observe the condition).
